Insect and disease management for trees and shrubs ...
Our plant health care programs are based on the theory of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). With IPM, a trained individual will inspect the plant material and will only treat the plants if and when there is a need. This is a big change from the practices of the past (which some companies still follow) where the technician will simply 'blanket spray' all trees & shrubs if they need the treatment or not.
IPM is much more environmentally friendly than blanket spraying and is strongly recommended by Penn State University and most other universities. The trick to IPM is having the right people, with the proper training to spot the problems that arise. Our certified arborists and state licensed technicians are those people.
Mention insect and disease management and most people immediately think of spraying. Spraying is certainly a very important part of managing insects & diseases, however, with an IPM program, many other things must be considered when looking at the plant as a whole. Things like proper fertilization, watering practices, proper pruning and mulching all contribute to keeping a plant healthy.
In addition the items mentioned above, Green Giant has many other "tool in the toolbox" to treat insect & diseases. We can treat plants with trunk
injections and soil injections. These injections eliminate spray residue which is good in areas where drift is a concern. The injections also provide a very thorough coverage of the tree since the tree's circulatory system carries the materials to all living parts of the plant.
